The winters in Canada are often long and cold and for open water swimmers this can make for a long wait until racing season arrives in the summer. However, the wait is finally over and this weekend the Global Swim Series kicks off its busy season in Canada with a double header.  There will be plenty of races on the Series schedule in Canada this summer and this weekend things start with back-to-back swims in Ontario.

Saturday will feature the Mine Over Matter swim which will be entering its second year as a part of the XTerra Off-Road Triathlon event taking place at the Kelso quarry. This race was a lot of fun in its inaugural year so look for the field to be considerably larger this year! Kelso quarry is a beautiful environment in which to swim and the temperatures should be around perfect for this time of year.

On Sunday the series shifts only a little ways away as we head to Caledon for the Caledon Quarry Swim I (the 2nd being hosted in September). This race takes place in a private quarry which is now solely used for swimming and triathlon training. The course is a large and straight rectangle which in years past has allowed for swimmers to consistently put up fast times!

With a very competitive season in Canada last year in the Global Swim Series this year should build right of that momentum, there should be a lot of great competition and a lot of familiar names who finished high on the Global Rankings last year making their debut this weekend.
