Moville Lighthouse Swim

About

People love destination races.  Both the type you fly or drive to, but also a race that is a destination in itself.  To swim from one point to another.  Or to a point and back.  That’s the allure of great swims like swimming the English Channel.  That sense of discovery and accomplishment!

Well the Moville Lighthouse Swim is billed as “The Greatest Little Lighthouse Swim In The World”!  It is a very cool swim from the shore, out to the lighthouse, and back!  A great 1.2 km sprint!  They have wetsuit and “skins” division, so if 14C/57F seems a bit chilly, then you might want to don your wetsuit… although this is Ireland… and 40% go “skins”!

On the other hand, there is an advantage to being slow in this swim too… in 2014 the swimmers got to swim with several dolphins during the race!  How amazing would that be!  So you might want to slow down and take in all the magic too!

Since the start of this race in 2012, it has grown significantly and become a fun local event, hey, they even have their own “Swim Song“!  And the race is currently capped at 100 swimmers, so enter early!

So whether you want to swim for the adventure and beauty of the race, or to support their charity that gives to care and support for people with depression, or both, it is a great race to swim.  Which leads to the price… it’s FREE!  You just need to donate to any of the 4 local Charities the race supports!

Doing something nice for the community and supporting a worthy cause should warm the cockles of your heart… which might be nice when the rest of you is feeling the chilly water!
